Starting with our 26 Nov 2018 release, you can now receive instant, tailored course recommendations to meet your training needs with Smart Lists.
Smart Lists use artificial intelligence and machine learning to curate courses based on the specific criteria you supply. The algorithm also takes into account your organization’s previous course selections, completions, and learner ratings, when available.
To get started, log into your OpenSesame account and select My Lists from your account menu in the top right corner, then select the “New Smart List” button. (The standard “New List” option remains available at right.)
You will be asked a few quick questions about your preferences, such as the topic(s), content language, course length, and whether you only want recommendations from the OpenSesame Plus subscription catalog.
You can receive recommendations from here by clicking “Create your list,” or you can select specific publishers, course features, and/or favor newer courses through the “advanced options” below the button.
Once you’re satisfied with the answers, click the “Create your list” button to receive tailored recommendations in the form of a new List. For easy organization and tracking, the List title defaults to the date it was created, which you can edit along with the description.
The recommendations will be grouped by each topic you’d submitted. Each Group starts out with a maximum of 5 courses, however you can easily add more, which we’ll cover next.
As with standard Lists, you can share Smart Lists with your stakeholders to collaborate, give and receive feedback, preview course demos, and add all or specific courses to your LMS.
Add more recommendations with Smart Groups
If your training needs are more robust than the starting maximum of five courses per group, or you have a standard List you’d like recommendations for, you can put the Smart Lists algorithm back to work with the “+ Add Courses” option to the right of each group:
This will open the Smart Groups panel, where you can browse additional course recommendations for the selected group. If you began with a Smart List, the courses that appear here will be based upon the keyword (group name) and preferences you’d submitted earlier.
If you want to adjust those preferences, or add some if you’d begun with a standard List, you can change the keyword and set a variety of filters to further refine your results. Once you see a course you like, add it to your group by clicking its circular orange icon.
