Note: To use OpenSesame course packages, you must upload them to a learning platform, such as a Learning Management System (LMS). For information about uploading, see your platform’s documentation.
Lists allow you to download course packages in bulk for your learning platform. To download a course, you must have an active license for it.
In this guide:
Download course files from a List
Note: For an introduction to Lists, see How to use OpenSesame Lists.
Log in to OpenSesame and select My Lists:
To open a List, click its title:
Next, select from the courses within. You can select everything, specific Groups, or individual courses. Only courses with an active license can be downloaded.
To select everything, use the first box:
When at least one course is selected, a Deliver Courses button appears. Click it:
Note: If you use Pay Per Use (PPU) licenses, an Add to Library button also appears. If the course isn’t in your library, click that button first.
If you have multiple license types for any of the selected courses, choose which type to use.
If a course doesn’t have a license, a notification appears and the course is removed from the download:
Note: If you receive this notification and believe a license should be available, please confirm you are logged in to the correct account. If problems persist, contact support@opensesame.com for assistance.
Select the Download Packages delivery option. If a different option appears, expand the menu and choose Download Packages from there:
Confirm that the file type your learning platform needs is selected. If not, select the correct one, then click Default:
It’s important to keep the file type consistent, as learning platforms can handle them differently. If you start using one and decide to switch, contact support@opensesame.com first.
Click Download:
A progress bar appears as the request processes. When it finishes, you return to the List and a zip file downloads to your computer.
Extract the file
The zip file contains multiple files, including a CSV of metadata. It must be extracted before the course zip file it contains can be accessed and uploaded to a learning platform.
The tiny size of the "parent" zip file, even though it contains many course files, is due to OpenSesame's patented delivery technology.
PC extraction steps
By default, Windows saves the zip file to your Downloads folder. If your PC is set up to save downloads to a different folder, look there instead.
In Windows 10 and 11, select File Explorer:
Next, select the Downloads folder:
The filename of a zip downloaded from a List begins with its download date. Locate the file, right-click it, and select Extract All:
Select a destination folder and click Extract:
The file decompresses into a folder. The folder contains individual course zip files, a CSV file of metadata, and a ReadMe text file. Each course’s zip file uses a unique identifier as its filename, such as 1a26c1ac-05d1-6aa4-4d3d-5e405d46222e. (This is because multiple courses can have the same title.)
Do not extract the individual course zip files. They must remain as-is to work in a learning platform.
The CSV file of metadata begins with each course’s title in the first column. This is followed by the course’s unique identifier (“GUID”) in the second column, which matches its zip’s filename. Other columns provide the course description, publisher name, estimated seat time (in minutes), languages, and more.
When you have the individual course zip files, they can be uploaded to your learning platform. For information about uploading, see your platform’s documentation.

Mac extraction steps
By default, MacOS saves the zip file to your Downloads folder. If your Mac is set up to save downloads to a different folder, look there instead.
In MacOS, select Finder, then the Downloads folder:
