IMPORTANT: Different elearning delivery methods often identify learners differently. As a result, using more than one delivery method for the same learners may give each person more than one seat license, which also affects reporting. See Seat duplication exceptions for combinations that avoid this.
OpenSesame supports several ways to deliver courses to learners. The options available depend on how your account is configured.
In this overview:
Find the delivery options
After you purchase licenses and select courses to deliver—from a List or an individual course page—a Deliver Courses button appears. Select it.
Note: If you do not have a license for a selected course, a notification appears and the course is removed from the queue.
A delivery tool appears. To review the options available to your account, open the menu.
Delivery methods
The most common delivery methods are:
- Download courses and metadata to upload to a learning platform, such as a learning management system (LMS). These downloads can be SCORM 1.2 packages, AICC packages, or AICC URLs.
- Send courses and metadata directly to a learning platform. This requires an OpenSesame integration.
Some delivery methods appear only if they have been configured. Most accounts have fewer options than the following example.
In alphabetical order:
- AICC Launch URLs - If your organization uses a learning platform that accepts AICC URLs, use this option to download URLs and metadata to upload to your platform. Learners log in to that platform to launch their courses.
- Download Packages - If your organization uses a learning platform that supports the AICC or SCORM 1.2 file standards and you don’t use an OpenSesame integration, use this option to download course packages and metadata to upload to your platform. Learners log in to that platform to launch their courses.
- No LMS? - If your organization has fewer than 100 learners and uses CourseCloud Legacy, use this option to send course invitations by email. Learners launch courses by selecting a link in the email or by logging in to OpenSesame.
- Quick Launch - If your OpenSesame account is configured to use single sign-on (SSO) to validate learners, use this option to generate a launch link for each course. Copy and share these links with learners anywhere. This option supports only learners who use SSO.
- Send to Integration - If your organization uses a learning platform and your OpenSesame account is configured with an integration, use this option to send courses directly to your learning platform. Learners log in to that platform to launch their courses.

Seat duplication exceptions
Different elearning delivery methods often identify learners differently. As a result, using more than one delivery method for the same learners may give each person more than one seat license, which also affects reporting.
The following delivery combinations identify learners in the same way and should not duplicate seats:
| Delivery method 1 | Delivery method 2 | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| OpenSesame integration that uses SSO | Quick Launch Links | The SSO attribute used to identify learners must match. |
| OpenSesame integration that uses AICC packages or AICC launch URLs | Downloaded AICC launch URLs | The downloaded launch URLs must be used in the same integrated platform. |
| Legacy "embedded catalog" integration | Downloaded AICC or SCORM 1.2 packages | The downloaded packages must be used in the same integrated platform. |
If you are unsure whether your setup will duplicate seats:
- Ask your OpenSesame Implementation Specialist or OpenSesame Support.
- Test for duplication before making courses available to learners.
If you manage distinct groups of learners, each using a separate learning platform with no learners shared across groups, seat duplication is not a concern.
