Note: This test course is in limited release. It’s available only to organizations working with an OpenSesame Implementation Specialist. For an alternative resource, see Testing best practices.
The OpenSesame Test Course, also known internally as Testy McTestface, speeds up and simplifies quality-assurance (QA) testing.
We strongly recommend QA testing before distributing courses to learners. It helps catch issues early, supports a smooth training experience, and maintains confidence in your training program.
In this guide:
What it tests
The test course checks whether a device and network:
It also sends a completion and score to your learning platform, so you can confirm reporting works as expected. It doesn’t test publishers outside of OpenSesame Plus.
Each attempt provides a summary and a downloadable report. Any failed test appears in the report first, along with a suggested fix.
You can retake the course as often as needed to ensure learner environments support OpenSesame content.
Where to use it
Whenever possible, run the test course in the IT environments your learners will use.
These may include:
- Bandwidth restrictions
- VPNs
- Mobile applications
- Other unique factors, such as legacy browser versions
Where to get it
Your OpenSesame Implementation Specialist provides access to the test course and runs it with you during a call.
How to use it
After you deliver the course to your learning platform, run the test from the platform.
- Find the course in your platform and enroll in it.
- Many platforms allow previews without enrollment, however previews don’t provide course completions or scores.
- Each learning platform has its own enrollment process. For more information, see your platform’s documentation or contact its support team.
- Launch the course.
- Follow the prompts.
- Review the results.
The course opens on an introduction page. To begin testing, click Let’s Get Started.
A loading animation appears while the course checks system requirements and hundreds of content sources. This takes less than 5 minutes.
Initial results
When the checks finish, results appear.
The page contains:
- Results - A summary of findings.
-
Completion check - A reminder to confirm that your learning platform shows a completion and a score of 100%.
- This course sends a completion when launched.
- OpenSesame can confirm that a completion was sent, but it can’t confirm whether your platform received it.
-
Publisher requirements
- If a publisher’s content can’t connect, its name appears. Ask your IT team to allow the subdomains listed in the full report.
- If many sources fail, the list of names may be shortened. A note appears, and the full list is available in the report.
- If you don’t plan to use the affected publisher(s), no action is needed. Still, we recommend allowing all publisher domains to simplify adding courses later.
- System requirements - Browser, bandwidth, and operating system results appear as a percentage. If the score is below 100%, work with your IT team to resolve any issues.
- Next steps - If issues were found, click Download Report to get a spreadsheet (CSV file) of results to share with your IT team.
- Exit course - Ends the session and closes the course.
- Run again - Restarts the test without ending the session. (Retesting this way doesn’t register another completion.)
You can close and relaunch the course as many times as needed.
Successful results
When an environment fully supports OpenSesame Plus content, success messages appear in the Publisher Requirements and System Requirements sections.
If a few publishers can’t connect but you don’t plan to use them, you might not need a success message in the Publisher Requirements section. If a note says the list of names is shortened, though, check the report for any publishers you do plan to use.
