What is markdown and why should I use it?
Simon makes it easy for you to create great looking courses by automatically formatting the text in your course. There are a few areas where you can add formatting using markdown elements. See below for the list of supported and unsupported text content types:

Types of markdown elements supported in Simon:
Add bold formatting to your text
To bold text, add two asterisks or underscores before and after a word or phrase.
Add italic formatting to your text
To italicize text, add one asterisk or underscore before and after a word or phrase.
Add bold & italic formatting to your text
To emphasize text with bold and italics at the same time, add three asterisks or underscores before and after a word or phrase.
Add hyperlinks
To create a link, enclose the link text in brackets and then follow it immediately with the URL in parentheses. To display text as a link, just add brackets on either side of the text.
Ordered, nested and bulleted lists

- To create an ordered list, add line items with numbers followed by periods.
- Indent one or more items to create a nested list.
- To create an unordered list, add dashes (

), asterisks (*
), or plus signs (+
) in front of line items.
Add horizontal rules
To create a horizontal rule, use three or more asterisks (***
), dashes (---
), or underscores (___
) on a line by themselves. Be sure to include a blank line above and below.
