Note: The OpenSesame MCP is in limited availability, and not all accounts are eligible. For more information, see the requirements.
The OpenSesame Model Context Protocol (MCP) brings the OpenSesame catalog to AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Copilot. Learners ask their AI tool for training on a topic, then launch a matching course from the conversation.
In this overview:
Requirements
Eligibility
To use the OpenSesame MCP, your account must:
- Have an OpenSesame Customer Success Manager (CSM).
- Have a subscription to OpenSesame Plus Complete.
- Have single sign-on (SSO) configured for course launches.
- Use an integrated learning platform, such as a learning management system (LMS), that supports Quick Launch Links or have no LMS.
- Supported LMS environments include 360Learning, Aura Talent, Sana, SparkLearn, Viva Learning, and Workday.
- If you have configured CourseCloud, Degreed, Edcast, Oracle Learning Cloud, SumTotal, or tilr for SSO with OpenSesame, that environment is also supported.
The OpenSesame MCP doesn't support accounts that have multiple license types or multiple SSO configurations.
To confirm your account's eligibility, contact your CSM.
What you need
To use the OpenSesame MCP, you need:
- An AI tool that supports MCP, such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Copilot, with a plan that allows MCP connections.
- A connection from the AI tool to the OpenSesame MCP, configured by your organization.
- Access to the AI tool for each interested learner, provided by your organization.
Initial setup is manual and requires help from OpenSesame. To get started, contact your CSM.
How it works
Note: For general requests, such as "teach me about _____," an AI tool might not know to use the OpenSesame MCP. For more reliable results, mention OpenSesame or use clear training language, such as "find me a course on _____."
- In their AI tool, a learner adds the OpenSesame MCP from your organization's available MCP connections.
- The learner asks their AI tool for training on a topic.
- The AI tool searches the entire OpenSesame Plus catalog and returns up to five matching courses. Each course includes a title with a launch link and a description.
- The learner selects a course's launch link, and the course launches directly from their AI tool.
Course completions and progress
Completions
All completions immediately appear on your OpenSesame dashboard.
For a completion to also appear on a learner's LMS transcript, deliver the relevant course to your LMS, and confirm it's active there, before the learner launches it from the AI tool.
In-progress courses
Courses that a learner launches from the AI tool but does not finish do not appear in a learner's LMS transcript, even if the course was delivered there. To resume a course, the learner returns to the same AI conversation. Their progress is maintained.
If a learner launches a course from the AI tool that they'd already had in progress in the LMS, they resume where they left off.
Reporting and privacy
Reporting
OpenSesame doesn't record which individual learners search for or launch courses using the OpenSesame MCP. Your CSM can share aggregate totals for your organization, such as the number of MCP searches and launches.
Privacy
OpenSesame doesn't record personally identifiable information (PII) from OpenSesame MCP conversations or use those conversations to train any OpenSesame AI model.
Your AI tool's vendor has its own data practices, independent of OpenSesame's.
If you have questions about the OpenSesame MCP, contact your OpenSesame Customer Success Manager, or contact OpenSesame Support at support@opensesame.com.
