Note: If your account isn't configured for PPU, see How to download course packages from a List. For an introduction to Lists, see How to use OpenSesame Lists.
To download multiple Pay Per Use (PPU) course packages at a time, use a List. You can download packages in either the AICC or SCORM 1.2 file format, two common elearning standards.
To use a course package, upload it to a learning platform, such as a learning management system (LMS). For upload steps, which vary by platform, see your platform’s documentation.
In this guide:
1. Select a List
Log in to your OpenSesame account and select My Lists.
To open a List, select its title.
If you don't have any Lists, you can browse premade Lists from OpenSesame curators. Go to the OpenSesame catalog and set the Product Type filter to Lists.
2. Select courses
In your List, select courses to download. You can select everything, specific Groups, or individual courses.
When at least one course is selected, buttons appear.
If you haven’t yet added the courses to your PPU library, which creates PPU licenses, select Add to Library. (If the button does not appear, your account is not configured for PPU.)
A confirmation message appears.
When courses have licenses, they can be downloaded.
Select the courses again, then select Deliver Courses.
If you don't have a license for a course, a notification appears and the course is removed from the delivery queue.
3. Download packages
Select the Download Packages delivery option.
If a different option appears, expand the menu and choose Download Packages from there.
Confirm that your learning platform's preferred file type is selected. To set the current selection as the default, select Make Default.
Keep the file type consistent.
- Some platforms identify learners differently for each file type, and switching can cause learners to use more than one seat.
- If you start with one type and decide to switch, contact support@opensesame.com first.
Select Download.
If you have multiple license types for a course, choose which type to use and select Next.
A progress bar appears. When it finishes, a zip file downloads to your device.
4. Extract the file
The zip file contains multiple course packages. It must be extracted before the course packages can be accessed and uploaded to a learning platform.
The tiny size of the file is due to OpenSesame's patented delivery technology.
PC extraction steps
By default, Windows saves downloads to the Downloads folder. If your PC uses a different folder, check there instead.
In Windows 10 or 11, select File Explorer.
Select Downloads.
The filename of a zip downloaded from a List begins with the download date. Locate the file, right-click it, and select Extract All.
Select a destination folder and select Extract.
The file decompresses into a folder. The folder contains:
- Individual course packages
- A CSV file of metadata
- A ReadMe text file
Each individual course package is a zip file that uses a unique identifier as its filename, such as 1a26c1ac-05d1-6aa4-4d3d-5e405d46222e. This is used because multiple courses can have the same title.
Do not extract the individual course zip files. They must remain as-is to work in a learning platform.
The CSV file of metadata begins with each course’s title. The course’s unique identifier (“GUID”) appears in the second column and matches the filename of the course's zip file. Other columns include thumbnail images, course descriptions, publisher names, estimated seat times (in minutes), languages, and more.
You can now upload the individual zip files to your learning platform.
- For upload steps, which vary by platform, see your platform’s documentation.
- If you experience a problem downloading packages, contact OpenSesame Support at support@opensesame.com.
Mac extraction steps
By default, MacOS saves downloads to the Downloads folder. If your Mac uses a different folder, look there instead.
In MacOS, select Finder, then select Downloads.
The filename of a zip downloaded from a List begins with the download date. Locate the file and double-click to extract it.
