After you’ve made a Simon course, the next step is to send it to the My Courses dashboard in OpenSesame. When the course is in OpenSesame, you can deliver it to learners.
Any Simon course you send to OpenSesame is private, so it’s only available to your organization.

Step by step
Send your course
In the Simon Course Manager’s Library tab, find your finished course and open its More options menu:
Select Send to My Courses:
Next, expand a top-level category and select a category from within.
- If you use a learning platform that organizes by category, this step could help your learners find the course later.
- If you’re not sure, use the Skip option that follows the top-level categories.
Click Next:
A preview of course details appears. This information will appear on the course’s page in OpenSesame.
- The thumbnail image is the course’s cover page background image.
- To change something, click Back to return to the previous steps, or use the X to exit, then use Simon’s course editing tools.
If everything looks good, click Next:
Confirm that the course meets the Simon Terms and Conditions, then click Send to send it to your My Courses dashboard in OpenSesame:
A message appears while the request processes. When the process finishes, a confirmation appears:
To go directly to OpenSesame from here, click the View in My Courses button.
In the Simon Course Manager, the “draft” dot next to the course is gone, and the gray OpenSesame icon is now orange. These changes indicate the course was sent:
If you edit a course after you send it to OpenSesame:
- The “draft” dot reappears.
- Your changes don’t appear in OpenSesame until you send the new version. To do this, reopen the More options menu and select Update My Courses:
If you use the Simon Course Manager to Archive a sent course:
- That doesn’t affect the course’s status in OpenSesame.
- For more information about course removal in OpenSesame, see the After delivery section.
Find the course in OpenSesame
Log in to your OpenSesame account, then open the account menu and select Courses:
Note: If you access OpenSesame through a window in a learning platform, log in to your platform, open the integration, and then continue.
This leads to the My Courses dashboard. Select the Simon Courses tab:
Note: If you use a legacy OpenSesame integration, you might start from the legacy Courses dashboard. If that happens, switch to the My Courses dashboard, then continue.
The Simon Courses tab is empty until it receives the first course sent from Simon. When you send a course, it can take up to 15 minutes to appear in OpenSesame. (For a full guide on the My Courses dashboard and its other tabs, see How to use the My Courses dashboard.)
When a Simon course appears, it has the Ready status:
The Simon Courses table has three columns:
- Title - Course details: title, publisher, thumbnail image, duration, and the number of languages.
- Added - When the course was sent from the Simon Course Manager.
-
Status - One of the following:
- Ready
- Delivered
To visit a course’s page, click the course’s title.
Course visibility
Even though the course page looks like other OpenSesame course pages, any Simon course you send to your My Courses dashboard is private.
- The course doesn’t appear in the OpenSesame catalog’s search results.
- Only you and members of your Team in OpenSesame can deliver your Simon courses. (This team is separate from your team in Simon.)
You can still share the course page outside of your Team:
- If you share a direct link with someone, they can visit the page.
- If you add the course to a List and then share the List, the recipient can visit the course page from there. (For more information about Lists, see How to use OpenSesame Lists.)
Prepare to deliver the course package
When your Simon course is in your My Courses dashboard, you can deliver the course like any other OpenSesame course.
Before you deliver, know:
- Your Simon course is part of your existing OpenSesame Plus subscription license.
- If a learner doesn’t have an OpenSesame Plus seat, when they launch a Simon course, they occupy a seat.
If you haven’t delivered a course from OpenSesame before, the delivery method you choose depends on whether you use an integration.
- If your OpenSesame account is set up with an integration, you can send a course package directly to a learning platform.
- If you don’t use an integration, you can download a course package and then upload it to your learning platform.
When you’re ready to deliver, continue to the next step.
Deliver the course package
You can deliver your Simon course from:
- The Simon Courses tab in your My Courses dashboard.
- The course’s page.
- A List you add the course to.
To deliver from the Simon Courses tab, either:
A. Open a course’s Action menu and select Deliver course:
Or:
B. Select a course and use the Deliver Courses button:
Next, select your usual delivery method, then follow the steps you take to deliver OpenSesame courses.
If a different delivery option appears, expand the menu and select your usual delivery method from there:
If you haven’t delivered courses from OpenSesame before, for more information, see the following guides.
- With an integration: Send courses from a List.
- Without an integration: Download a course from a List or a course page.
After delivery
After a Simon course is delivered, its status in the Simon Courses tab updates to Delivered:
In the Delivered tab, courses you create and deliver have a Simon badge on their thumbnail image. Simon courses made by OpenSesame publishers don’t have this badge.
If you return to the Simon Course Manager and edit a sent course:
- Use the Update My Courses tool in the Simon Course Manager to send the new version to OpenSesame.
- When the new version is sent, your updates are applied. You don't need to deliver the course from OpenSesame again.
If you return to the Simon Course Manager and use its Archive tool, that doesn’t affect a sent course’s status in OpenSesame.
- Sent courses can’t be removed from the Simon Courses tab in OpenSesame.
- If you decide not to deliver a course, leave it in the Simon Courses tab with the Ready status.
- For information about removing a Simon course you deliver from OpenSesame, see the guide to the Delivered tab.
