Send Simon courses to LMS or to Marketplace
I finished creating my course. How do I get the course into my LMS?
Here are detailed instructions to send courses to the marketplace and your LMS.
I sent a course to My Courses but they are not showing up in my OpenSesame dashboard. Can you help?

I am unable to “Send to My Courses” - the option is grayed out.

Ability to save / validation errors
I’m not able to save my work but it tells me that there are unsaved changes. What can I do?
Do not refresh your browser or you will lose any unsaved changes. Look through the fields in the course editor for any errors that need to be fixed. Some examples of common errors include:
- Titles that are too long (going over the character limits)
- Slide content that is too long (going over the character limits)
- Empty sections
- Text+Image slides that don't have an image selected
Why do you have character limits?
Simon was designed to make it easy for anyone to create courses that are responsive, accessible and easily translated. Having character limits for the text in the courses ensures that learners on any device, in any language will have a good experience.
I’m trying to bring over content from another source and the paragraphs are all too long. Do you have any tips or tricks?
One suggestion is to summarize your paragraphs into key bullet points and then include the paragraph text as the narration. This will simulate an in-person experience with simple slides with more details and examples included in the discussion. Narration scripts can be up to 750 characters.
The changes I made are not reflected in the course preview. Why?
Make sure to save your changes before you preview! If the course is already open in a browser window, refresh the window so that the updated content can be loaded.
Requests for training content
Can you send me a training guide on how to build in Simon?
Our onboarding materials are consolidated in our Knowledge base. You’ll find FAQs, written training guides, the schedule for onboarding webinars and interactive product demos.
Issues with video and captions
Learners are reporting that the images are not working correctly, or getting the error “Something went wrong. Please contact your learning administrator or OpenSesame support”
Be sure that the file you are using is a supported file type. If the problem persists, try removing the image or video from the course, delete it from the Asset Manager and then upload it again and add it back to the course.
Please note: we do not support MOV files and we suggest that you avoid using any special characters in the video file names.
I uploaded a video with a female speaker but the translated audio is a male speaker. Is there any way to change that?
Yes, when videos are uploaded, we default to adding "male" as the default gender for the translated audio. If you want to change this to female, go to the Asset Manager, click on the asset and then change the preferred voice and Apply the changes.
Is there a way to have male and female translated audio in a single video?
No. We have plans for improving this in the future but for now, translated audio will be a single gender.
I already have captions and subtitles for my video. Can I use those instead of the captions and subtitles generated by Simon?
You can use your own caption and subtitle files for the audio/video included in the course by uploading .vtt files with a matching file name. Here are some examples:
- Video: My-Video.mp4
- Captions: My-Video-en.vtt, My-Video-de.vtt, My-Video-es.vtt, My-Video-fr.vtt, My-Video-fr-CA.vtt, etc.

Course and Asset management
Is there any plan to allow folders so I can organize my courses and assets?
We have been doing some design exploration on how to manage the assets better. Stay tuned! Until that is available, we recommend you use a clear naming convention, so that you can use our search feather to find all the related courses or assets quickly.
